Society of OncoAnaesthesia and Perioperative Care

President Message

Dear Esteemed Members, Colleagues and Friends,

It is with great honor and a profound sense of responsibility that I greet you as the newly elected President of the society of Onco-Anaesthesia and perioperative care.
I am deeply grateful for your trust and confidence, and I am happy to be on this journey with you to advance our evolving subspecialty.

Onco-anaesthesiology is more than just providing anesthesia for cancer surgery. It is a specialized and holistic discipline that encompasses the entire perioperative journey of a cancer patient. Our role is crucial, from initial pre-habilitation and risk optimization to complex intra-operative management and multimodal post-operative pain control. We are ensuring our patients' safety, comfort and best possible outcomes as they face one of life's most formidable challenges.

Over the past few years, our society has taken remarkable strides, thanks to the collective effort and unwavering commitment of our members

  • Academic excellence: We have successfully hosted a series of webinars and workshops, elevating the standard of practice across our field.
  • Research advancement: Our flagship publication, the Journal of Onco-Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (JOAPM), has seen significant growth, providing a vital platform for sharing innovative research and evidence-based solutions.
  • We have strengthened our ties with key partners in surgical oncology, medical oncology and palliative care, reinforcing the multidisciplinary approach that is the cornerstone of modern cancer treatment.

Cancer care is advancing at a High pace, with new therapies and increasingly complex procedures. This presents both opportunities and challenges for onco-anaesthesiologists. As we look to the future, our focus will be on:

  • Enhancing Educational Opportunities: We will expand our fellowship programs, workshops and continuing medical education offerings to address the growing need for trained onco-anaesthesiologists.
  • Expanding Our Research Agenda: We will encourage prospective clinical trials to solidify the evidence base behind our practice and uncover novel strategies for optimising cancer recurrence rates and survival.
  • Building a Strong Community: We will continue to grow our professional network, providing a platform for members to share knowledge, collaborate on projects and support one another.
  • I am confident that with your active engagement, innovative ideas and unwavering dedication, we will build on the strong foundation laid by our predecessors. I encourage you all to get involved, contribute, share your experience and help us shape the future of onco-anaesthesia.

Thank you once again for this immense privilege. I am eager to work with you all in the service of our society and most importantly, our patients.
